Introducing the Colorado High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class of 2018 Albert Blanc: The 1966 graduate of Glenwood Springs completed his B.A./M.A. degrees at Western State College in 1975. His coaching career has covered the state from east to west and all parts between. He started with a three year stint in Vilas where he coached both boys and girls basketball as well volleyball and baseball. All of those teams qualified for the playoffs during Blanc’s stay. Coaching Record: The 42 year head coach has been the head boys basketball coach at eleven different high schools and Lamar Community College in his tenure. His teams recorded well over 600 wins and his 1996 Swink Lions won the state championship. His teams earned third place state finishes at Swink and Delta. Under Blanc’s guidance each school has rose to compete for the top spot in the league within a short time of his arrival. The well-known boys basketball coach also coached volleyball for 19 seasons with an overall record of 110-52. Offices: Blanc has been a member of the CHSCA for 43 years and was the Boys Basketball President for the organization from 2003-2005. Honors: He coached in the CHSCA All State Games in 1985, 1989, and 2009. He received the sport’s top honor the Tom Sutak Award in 2002. Twelve times he was named the league Coach of the Year for Boys Basketball, three times for Girls Volleyball, and two times for Baseball. He was named Boys Basketball Coach of the Year for Colorado in 1996. Family: Wife Becky 45 years. Son: Brian (Nicole). Granddaughters Avery and Ainsley. Bob Caton: The 1967 graduate of Denver West High School completed his B.S. at Colorado State University in 1971. He later received a M.S. from University of Northern Colorado in 1980. The early years of his coaching career were spent back in his roots of DPS. He coached at Denver Manual 1976- 80, Denver West 1980-88, Abraham Lincoln 1990-91, and George Washington 1995-2002. He then made his way to the suburbs to coach Aurora Central 2002-07, Highlands Ranch 2007-15, and Mullen 2017-18. Coaching Record: Prior to stepping back into the coaching ranks this year Caton had a record of 506-236. His teams have been among the final 16 at the state tournament 19 times, in the elite-eight eleven times, in the final-four four times, and in the state championship game twice. In 2001 the George Washington Patriots finished second at state, and in 2007 the Aurora Central Trojans finished as runners up. Offices: He has been a member of the CHSCA for more than 37 years and was a long time representative for the Denver Prep League. Honors: Caton played in the CHSCA All State Basketball Game in 1976 and proudly shares that CHSCA Hall-of-Fame coach Guy Gibbs coached him. He then coached in the games in 1985 and 2011. He was named the Denver Prep League Coach of the Year in 1984, 1986, and 2000. He was named the Aurora Coach of the Year in 2004 and the Continental League Coach of the Year in 2011.
