PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE- THAD LEAR Wow, the year is going fast, and our athletes and coaches are doing great things in the State of Colorado. No different for our association as this time of year we have great events where we honor our members as well as put the finishing touches on honoring our athletes and coaches. The recent CHSCA Hall of Fame banquet saw 5 new members be inducted into the CHSCA Hall of Fame, along with honoring numerous coaches with special awards and accomplishment awards as well. We also handed out scholarships to outstanding student-athletes selected by our committee members. I want to thank all of our committee members for your time and effort in selecting all of our honorees for the 2018 Hall of Fame Banquet. A special thanks to Bob Marken for his work in organizing the night’s events. While we put a wrap on this year’s events I want to commend Amy Estes for all of the work she is doing to assure another great event in Alamosa at the 2018 CHSCA All-State Games. This is the time of year that Amy is working around the clock to ensure the games will continue to grow and improve as they seem to do year in and year out. I want to congratulate all of the athletes, and especially the coaches that have been selected to participate in this summer’s All- State games. It is a great honor for all and I assure you, you will make memories and friends that you will have for a lifetime. I’m looking forward to seeing and talking to you at Adams State in June. Members, be sure to join us and honor your athletes in their final high school competition in Colorado. In July, CHSCA will be bringing you our annual summer Multi-sport clinic with some exciting new offerings for our younger coaches who are just getting started in the profession. Associate Directors Dick Katte and Becky Mudd have worked hard putting together a new coaches’ curriculum for our younger coaches. Thursday’s sessions promise to help give new coaches information and insight into what things coaches can expect. It will also be an opportunity for younger coaches to connect with coaches from our association, and begin to network and create mentors who will be a resource for them moving forward in their careers. Thursday will be followed up by an outstanding clinic that will include speakers in a variety of sports with agendas and speakers chosen by our sports presidents. The summer clinic continues to provide one last opportunity for coaches to learn and connect before the next school year gets underway. Thanks to new clinic directors Chris Kemm and Joe Brown for all your hard work putting this year’s clinic together- can’t wait to see it come together in July. Finally, I want to congratulate all of our winter sports champions. As a parent of a freshman basketball player I realized this year how long the Winter season runs! All of your time and efforts are to be commended. Great job to all winter sports coaches, your efforts with our kids are truly appreciated. Next, I want to say good luck to our spring coaches as we move toward the end of our spring seasons. Hopefully your teams will all peak at the right times and be performing their best at the “right time”. CHSCA looks forward to seeing you this spring at numerous events around the state. In closing I want to encourage you all to take time for yourselves as the summer arrives. As coaches we often lose ourselves in our work -and as great as that is, don’t forget yourselves. Summers are a time to recharge as well as prepare for the next season. Looking forward to great things from our coaches, and coaches please share with us your accomplishments so that we can continue to celebrate all the great things our members are doing. “Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.” -John Wooden
