COLORADO COACH- SPRING 2018 FROM THE SPORT PRESIDENTS • Opportunity to participate in CHSCA sport clinics • Free admittance to CHSAA playoff events • Free admittance to the CHSCA All-State Games • Eligible for CHSCA awards • Other opportunities as created by the organization And now on a motivational note: "Coaching? It was never what I envisioned doing. It's stressful, difficult, and it doesn't pay well. But I'm hooked. Knowing that I can make a difference in kids' lives is a big positive, and the reason I'm here." - Ann Donovan, WNBA Coach "Failure happens all the time. It happens every day in practice. What makes you better is how you react to it. -Mia Hamm" "Somewhere behind the athlete you've become, and the hours of practice, and the coaches who have pushed you is a little girl who fell in love with the game and never looked back... play for her." - Mia Hamm “My general rule, which I have followed throughout my coaching career, is that everyone doesn’t necessarily get treated the same way, because I’m not sure that’s possible. But everyone has to be treated fairly.” -Karch Kiraly Have a great Spring and Summer! FOOTBALL President Harrison Chisum Hello Coaches, The school year is winding down and I am sure that everyone is getting geared up for the summer! With the start date of August 6th the summer will seem to go a little faster. Thank you for all the countless hours each of you put into making your program the best it can be. The 2018 CHSCA All State Games will be taking place June 8th in Alamosa, Colorado. If you happen to have a player that is competing in game, I would encourage you to attend so that you can be recognized with them prior to the kickoff. This is always a good time for all that attend. Good luck to each of this upcoming season! Again, thanks for all that you do for your team, community, and state of Colorado. SOCCER President Justin Stephens I’m knocking on wood as I type this, but what a fantastic spring! Despite a personal first of having a match postponed for wind, the Colorado weather has been just about as nice as we could ask for! Fingers crossed that it carries on through the playoffs and best of luck to those teams participating! The spring season has been as competitive as any in recent memory with several golden goal victories, lots of close matches and tough fought rivalry games! It only stands to reason the playoffs will bring some of the best high school soccer in years. The state championship matches are again being held at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Please watch out for an email gauging interest in a hospitality suite again! With such great soccer being played statewide it is becoming an increasingly difficult task to select our CHSCA all- state teams; an excellent problem to have! Due to some calendar constraints, our Spring All State meeting, to select these teams, will be held on May 20th, 10:00 AM at Fort Collins High School. In the past this meeting has been held following the state final; however with Memorial day weekend in play and teacher/coaches leaving for the summer it makes sense to move the meeting up. Please plan to join us! The all state games are tentatively scheduled for July 11th. Please watch out for updates as we confirm final details! I would also like to encourage you to visit our soccer site at http://chssca.org/ and feel free to email me with any questions, comments or ideas about how to make our organization better. We want to involve as many coaches as possible, so please get on our email list if you are not already! As an English teacher and coach of sportsmanship I’ll leave you with this; Mark Twain points out, “It’s good sportsmanship not to pick up lost golf balls while they are still rolling.” BOYS’ BASKETBALL President Joe Ortiz Basketball coaches, I want to wish you all the best
