b'PRESIDENTS MESSAGE- DAN WATKINS Great leaders are great learners. They stay open to new information and to the ideas of others, & they arent afraid to experiment & make mistakes. -James KouzesIt has been a great start to the 2019-2020 year and Im excited about the work of our organization and our coaches. For the first time in well over a decade we have a change in our leadership. Our board is excited to welcome Becky Mudd as our next Executive Director and we look forward to working with her to elevate our organization and what it offers our member coaches. Also, I want to thank John Burke for the incredible leadership he has brought to CHSCA and am excited he will be staying on in a role where he will continue to be an asset to all of us.I hope many of you were able to attend our state championships this fall and take advantage of hospitality events CHSCA has to offer. Special thanks to our hospitality committee for their work to make these events special for our coaches. Gathering together to network and watch these events is a great way to close out your seasons. There are exciting changes happening and we are looking forward to the 2020 CHSCA All State Games taking place at CSU-Pueblo this summer. Please work with your sport presidents, leagues and athletes to get players nominated and selected for their respected sports. We hope to see a great turnout this summer and look forward to having you join us. As we all know, coaching is a journey and the best coaches continue to grow and learn. Rob Miller from Proactive Coaching tells the story of attending a coaching conference and the coach next to him asked him to take some notes on a presentation. The coach was 93 years old and had a difficult time writing. The coach who was interested in the presentation and wanted to learn more was John Wooden. I think we often get comfortable in how we coach and we have our go to drills and work within the same philosophyI challenge you to continue to learn and evolve. Find mentors, read books, watch videos, attend conferences and listen to podcasts. Today, we have the knowledge of the great minds in coaching at our fingertips. Be like Coach Wooden and continue to learn your craft. There are always things we can improve on. Focus on your culture, your core values, your philosophy. One of our goals is to provide you, our coaches, resources to help you continue your coaching journey. With your help, we are creating a resource for our members which includes books, videos and podcasts that our members can access when they have some time to continue their evolution as a coach. So please go here: https://forms.gle/JyPxH6x1msvSx6ps8 and share a resource or two you love that has helped you become a better coach. This resource will go on our website and we will push out a notice once it goes live. Finally, as you look for resources to help you network and learn, dont forget to fill in your calendar for the 2020 Multi Sports Clinic on July 23-25. Exciting information to come! Thank you for all you do within your programs and communities.Good luck to our winter and spring coaches as seasons continue and get underway! Its what you learn after you know it all that counts John Wooden'
