b'When the Colorado High School Coaches Association Board of Control named Becky Mudd to the position of Executive Director beginning January 1, 2020, the coaches in the state of Colorado welcomed a leader who truly represents the very best in high school coaches regardless of sport or state. The accomplishments qualities of our newest leader have been well documented Don Descombesand the notice of her new position has been sent to all the countrys high school coachesassociationsthatrepresentmultiplesportsandtoallthehighschool activity associations in the United States as well. Becky MuddThis seems a likely time to review our former executive directors and we will start with the very firstone,DonDescombes;atruevisionaryanddistinguishedcompetitor,coach,andsports Ed Kintzadministrator who was the first Executive Director of our organization.Mr. Descombes was a founder of the CHSCA and the CHSCA All-State Games and served as the Executive Director for 32 years.Also known as a top football and basketball official, he died in October of 1994.Mr. Descombes is a member of the CHSCA Hall of Fame and the NHSACA Hall of Fame.The organizations second leader was a well-known and highly respected football coach in the Denver area, Ed Kintz.Coach Kintz began his coaching career in Colorado Springs and then ledJohn Burkethe football programs of Englewood, Pomona, and Golden prior to going into private business in the spring of 1994.He was a fine mentor and leader to many of our young coaches of that era.Coach Kintz is also a member of both the state (CHSCA) and national (NHSACA) Hall of Fame.In the spring of 1994 the CHSCA Board named John Burke the next Executive Director.Mr. Burke was a long time Colorado prep football coach and CHSCA member, having arrived from Iowa in 1978.He immediately became a league representative and eventually the Football President prior Dick Rushto being named to the CHSCAs top post.He led the Windsor Wizards to the 1981 AA state championship and was the first coach to lead the Douglas County Huskies to the state football playoffs and later became the Athletic Director at DCHS.Mr. Burke returned to the Executive Directorpositionin2007,servingastheorganizationsleaderuntilJanuary1stof2020.His combinedtenuresleavehimasthestatessecondlongestservingExecutiveDirectorandhis service has earned him a place in both the state and national Hall of Fame.John MilesWhen Mr. Burke left the state to return to coaching football in Arizona the Board named Richard (Dick) Rush the new Executive Director.Westminster High Schools Mr. Rush was one of the states leaders in Swimming and Diving and to this day has a prominent Colorado Swim Meet named in his honor.He also was named to the position of NHSACA National Swimming Chairman.Unfortunately Coach Rush died early of cancer.JohnMilesofThomasJeffersonHighSchoolwasoneofthetoptenniscoachesinthestate, winning 88% of his matches over a 28 year period.He took over as Executive Director and Jack Meehanserved in the position a total of five years.Mr. Miles was instrumental in leading the CHSCA into the digital age as he brought the use of computers, electronic communication and the CHSCA website.Mr. Miles has also been inducted in to the state and national coaches Hall of Fame.Jack Meehan was perhaps the most well-known and respected coach and administrator in the state when he was selected to be the organizations next Executive Director.Mr. Meehan was the football coach at Douglas County High School prior to moving to the new Ponderosa High School Keith Tiemeyerin 1983.He eventually became the Athletic Director at Cherry Creek High School and was a very well-liked and respected leader.He unfortunately died of cancer in 2015.For the first time a soccer coach, Keith Tiemeyer, was named the Executive Director in 2006.CoachTiemeyerwastheheadboysandgirlssoccercoachatHolyFamilyHighSchooland eventually became the head soccer coach at Regis University for two years.Also a graduate of RegisUniversity,heisnowtheassociateheadcoachofthemenssoccerprogramatthe John BurkeUniversity of Wisconsin.'
