COLORADO COACH- WINTER 2018 FROM THE SPORT PRESIDENTS CHSCA Membership Membership is open to coaches, trainers, and athletic directors at the middle school, high school, and college level. Privileges of membership include CHSCA general liability, insurance, invitation to all CHSCA Events, subscription to Colorado Coach, online access to the current CHSCA/CHSAA school directory, opportunity to participate in CHSCA sport clinics, free admittance to CHSAA playoff events, free admittance to the CHSCA All-State Games, and eligibility for CHSCA awards. Outstanding Wrestler / Coach of the Year In your Coaches Packet for the State High School Championships, you will receive a ballot for the Outstanding Wrestler and Coach of the Year in each of the four classifications. Nominated coaches MUST be a current CHSCA member; if you believe you will be under consideration or know a coach who should be considered, please make sure he or you is a registered CHSCA coach. Each year deserving coaches are not eligible due to this omission. We need your active support and thoughtful participation in this process by filling out your ballot and returning it to the Wrestling President’s table on the main event floor. Additional ballots will be available at the CHSCA table. Outstanding Wrestler awards are sponsored by Rocky Mountain Nationals and Coach of the Year plaques are paid for by CO- USA Wrestling. Each plaque will be duplicated so that both the honoree and the school receive one to post. CHSCA All-State Games – June 5-9, 2018 – Adams State University http://www.chscaallstategames.org/sp orts/wrestling.html •Online nominations are to be submitted between Saturday, February 10th and Sunday, February 18th. The All-State Committee will select the team in late February / early March. •Each member coach will be able to submit nominations online up through Sunday of the State Championship weekend. •Voting at each weight class will be open to every CHSCA member coach. Top 2 vote recipients in each weight class will be selected to the All-State team. Nominees must be SENIOR WRESTLERS. Nomination and selection criteria will include: a. Academics: nominees must have a consistent record of academic excellence. b. Character: nominees will demonstrate leadership and serve as peer role models. c. Contribution: nominees will have shown dedication and commitment to the team. d. Performance: final placement in Regionals and State will be considered but will not be the only criteria for selection - Amy Estes will be sending out an e-mail with a direct link and instructions on how and where to nominate and vote. State Freshman-Sophomore State Championships Saturday, March 10, 2018 – Eaglecrest High School, Aurora Colorado Sponsored by Colorado-USA Wrestling, the annual 9th & 10th grade championship has become increasingly competitive and meaningful. Open to ANY wrestler in the first two years of high school, regardless of level and experience, it provides an opportunity for athletes to continue their involvement, conclude their season on a successful note, and open new possibilities for the following years. For those who also compete in the spring freestyle and Greco season, Frosh-Soph State allows for an additional week of practice with teammates. Registration will be conducted through Track Wrestling; they will be open through the week following the high school State Meet. Additional information will be posted at http://www.cusaw.org/. Fliers will be sent shortly by email and will also be in your Coaches Packet at the CHSAA State Championships. Encourage your wrestlers to continue their training and challenge their level of excellence by participating in the Saturday freestyle and Greco tournaments in April and May, where they can earn the privilege of representing the state of Colorado in national dual and individual competition in June and July. Youth Wrestling Opportunities There are three major championships for wrestlers from kindergarten age through 8th grade. On Saturday and Sunday, February 24-25, the Peak2Peak League will host its state championship at the Douglas County Events Center in Castle Rock. The Western Suburban Wrestling League will hold its All-State Youth Championships in Greeley at the Butler Hancock Arena on March 3-4. RMN Events has expanded its March 24th Colorado Regional to include both elementary and middle school competition at six sites: Adams State College, Castle View High School, Fort Lupton High, Grand Junction High, La Junta Jr./Sr. High, and Standley Lake High School.
