COLORADO COACH- WINTER 2018 FROM THE SPORT PRESIDENTS SOCCER President Justin Stephens We now know the 2018 Spring soccer season is just around the corner as it has been a warm, dry winter, but as I write enormous flakes of that white stuff are swirling in the wind and accumulating on the grass! Of course, we can’t kick off the spring season without first reflecting upon the successes of our fall season. The state tournament provided many memorable and exciting games, including the state finals matches at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park where they have been hosted since 2009. Congratulations to the following coaches and their teams on their 2017 state championship runs! 3A Liberty Common – Cyrus Salehi 4A Air Academy – Espen Hosoien 5A Broomfield – Jim Davidson The hard work of planning the annual all state games is well underway. President-Elect, Sean Stedeford of Colorado Academy, is spearheading this effort, and we are confident the games will again create a special and memorable occasion for some of Colorado’s most exciting young soccer players from all classifications. The games will be hosted in early July, details to be announced as soon as possible. Many Colorado coaches also attended the United Soccer Coaches (USC) annual convention this January in Philadelphia. Additionally, CHSCA hosted the Colorado Coaches social creating a unique forum for conversation between Colorado high school coaches and college coaches from around the country. It is a privilege and great honor to work with so many outstanding coaches within the Colorado high school ranks. Many of our awesome coaches were recognized by CHSCA for their work this last school year. During our fall meeting the following coaches were selected as the CHSSCA Boys Coach of the Year for their respective classification: Cyrus Salehi, Liberty Common (3A), Espen Hosoien, Air Academy (4A), and Jim Davidson, Broomfield (5A). We had many deserving coaches receive prestigious awards from the USC as well, head lined by Espen Hosoien being selected as the National Boys Coach of the year. Espen is the second winner of this award from Colorado in the last few years as Jim Davidson of Broomfield was also recently honored. Additionally, Paul Moline of D’Evelyn (Large School) and Brian Schultz (Private/Parochial) were selected for Far West Region Coach of the Year following the 2017 spring girls season. Finally, please visit our soccer site at http://chssca.org/ for details on the girls all state meeting, the all state games, as well as to see the boys selected to the fall 2017 All State Teams. Congratulations to those who have wrapped up the fall season and enjoying a well deserved break! To those just getting started with spring work outs good luck, inspiring, motivating, and teaching your players to be the best versions of themselves and the absolute finest ambassadors of your schools!
